Homeschooling is a unique journey for every family, and what works for us might inspire ideas for your own routine. With two kids, a business to run, and a household to manage, we’ve developed a schedule that keeps us organized while allowing for flexibility and creativity. Here’s a glimpse into how we structure our homeschool week:

Monday: Life Skills & Outdoor Learning
While I’m at the preschool, the kids enjoy independent activities or workbooks. In the afternoon, we incorporate life skills:
Chores: Learning to manage household responsibilities is an essential part of our homeschool curriculum.
Outdoor Exploration: We go on a walk or bike ride as a family, turning our surroundings into a classroom.
Tuesday: Focus on Core Subjects
9:00 AM - 11:00 AM: We dive into homeschooling with math and language arts. These are our foundational subjects, and starting the week with a focus on them sets a strong tone.
Math: Miki practices multiplication using hands-on manipulatives and engages in fun games to reinforce concepts.
Reading: We focus on reading comprehension and fluency. Miki’s growing interest in books has been a joy to nurture!
Afternoon: After our lessons, the kids have free time for creative play while I catch up on work.
Wednesday: Hands-On Learning
9:00 AM - 11:00 AM: Jake helps with homeschooling while I attend a spin class (If I don't need to go into the Preschool). Together, they work on science experiments and art projects.
Science: Hands-on experiments make learning fun and memorable.
Art: Creative expression is encouraged through drawing, painting, or crafting.
Afternoon: We review any challenging concepts from earlier in the week.
Thursday: Music and Enrichment
9:00 AM - 11:00 AM: Peyton’s piano lesson kicks off our morning, and Miki works on a reading or writing project.
Creative Writing: We use prompts to spark imagination and storytelling.
Music Appreciation: We discuss a new artist or genre, integrating listening and learning.
Friday: Outdoor Adventures and Reading
Outdoor Exploration: Fridays are for getting outdoors as much as possible. Whether it’s a hike, park day, or a family bike ride, we prioritize fresh air and movement.
Reading Time: We set aside quiet time to enjoy books together and encourage a love for reading.
Weekly Recap: We review what we’ve learned and plan for the week ahead.
Sunday: Packet Prep and Planning
Curriculum Preparation: On Sundays, we dedicate time to prepping homeschool packets and organizing lessons for the week ahead. We utilize resources like BJU Press, Handwriting Without Tears, and TeachersPayTeachers.com to create a comprehensive and engaging curriculum.
Tips for Making It Work
Plan Ahead: Each Sunday, we spend 30 minutes preparing homeschool packets and activities for the week.
Be Flexible: Life happens! Some days we adjust our plans to fit everyone’s energy levels and interests.
Incorporate Interests: Miki’s love for gymnastics and girly activities often inspires creative lesson ideas.
Take Breaks: Short breaks during lessons help keep focus and energy high.
Homeschooling allows us to tailor education to our kids’ needs while fostering a love for learning. Our schedule isn’t perfect, but it’s a reflection of what works for us as a family. We hope this inspires you to create a routine that fits your unique journey!
